SUMMARY:Wilful and Wily: Women of the Middle Ages
DESCRIPTION:DescriptionPrices & tickets\n\n \n \n \n English Description\n \n \n Deutsche Beschreibung\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nWhat is better than wisdom? Woman. And what is better than a good woman? Nothing. \n– Geoffrey Chaucer \n\nTravel back in time with performance storyteller Ziyadliwa as she introduces you to women in the middle ages who refuse to take life lying down. From chaste women overcoming great odds and wicked mothers-in-law putting obstacles in the way of their “sisters” to female tricksters and women who aren’t afraid to say – and do! – what they want\, this evening is filled with tales about women who gain the upper hand\, one way or the other. \nAt times comic\, bawdy\, tragic\, mundane\, and profound\, these tales pulse with the full range of the human experience. Adult themes and an unforgettable experience of oral storytelling for grown-ups. \nThis show is performed in English. \nPrices & tickets \n\nNot sure what to expect from a storytelling performance?\nThink of it as theatre for the mind\, a combination of the intensity of a solo performance with the intimacy of a one-to-one conversation. \n\nWhat people say\n\nIf you’d told me last week that I’d be gripped to my seat for 90 minutes of someone telling stories\, I’d have laughed at you. Now that I’ve experienced Ziyadliwa in action\, I can’t wait for her next show. \nI’ve been coming to Ziyadliwa’s storytelling performances for several years now\, and learn something new every time\, because every show is different. As an English teacher at a local school\, I often tell my students to attend one of her shows for the English\, for the techniques\, for the stories\, and for the experience. Highly recommended! \nI had no idea that I’d discover something like this in Innsbruck! Ziyadliwa has a way with words that bring stories to life in vivid detail. I can’t wait to find more storytelling performances when I get home. \nFrom the moment the show started\, I felt transported to another place and time. It was magical\, unlike anything I’ve seen before. \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\nTicket fees: \n\n🦜”Earlybird” tickets (buy 7 or more days ahead of the show) – €12\n🎫 Standard tickets purchased online – €15\n🎟️ Tickets purchased on the door – €18 [Please note that we only have space for 35 people\, so there is no guarantee of tickets for purchase on the night.]\n\nBuy tickets online

SUMMARY:The Storyteller's Exchange / Pricing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Details for March 31st:For this month’s Storytellers’ Exchange\, we’re going to talk about pricing. If you have ever struggled to work out: \n\nHow much you need to earn to live\nHow to think about your (business) expenses\nHow to think about how to price your services for a proposal\nWhat to consider when you’re pricing your services\nHow to pricing for last-minute requests and difficult customers\nWhat you aren’t charging for (and that’s okay – but it’s nice to know!)\n\nThen this workshop might be right for you. \nNote that no one will TELL YOU how much to charge – that will depend on you\, your situation\, where you live\, and how much money you need or want to earn. \nAs part of this workshop\, we’ll work through two templates that I have designed to help me price both my storytelling and communications services. The idea is for you to work out what is right for you. And of course\, the templates are yours to use as you wish. \nFormat for the workshop: \n\nQuick welcome\nIntroductions and quick updates on the last month\nPricing workshop (+-45 minutes)\n\nOverview of different approaches to pricing\nThinking about expenses and business/individual needs\nBased on YOUR needs\, working out how to price your services \nHow to apply this approach\n\n\n\nWe’ll have time for questions\, sharing of ideas in smaller groups\, and of course\, some time for you to share what you plan to do to grow your practice/business in April. Because we all need a gentle kick up the bottom from time to time!! \nThis workshop won’t include a presentation of the storyteller pricing report because I need to get more folks to complete it – hopefully soon! \nDescription: \nWe believe that oral storytelling in the online environment won’t be going away any time soon\, so we thought we’d organise a regular get-together for oral storytellers who want to network with like-minded tellers who understand that if you want to be a professional storyteller\, it’s important to work out how to make storytelling viable – financially\, emotionally\, and more! \nThink of this as a place to explore “the business side of being a professional storyteller”. \nThis is a facilitated event that will feature a monthly theme and opportunity to learn\, breakout rooms and small group discussions\, along with group sharing and reflections to benefit the group. \nThe format from March onwards will probably be 90 minutes\, with 45 mins workshop/learning\, and 45 minutes networking\, but TBC. \nLet’s co-create something special in the storytelling community! \nGrab a cup of coffee\, tea or simply a glass of water\, and join our monthly Zoom call at 6pm CET (5pm GMT/12pm EST/ 9:30pm PST/4:30am Sydney). \nAbout the organiser: \nOur Storytellers’ Exchanges are organised and facilitated by Suzanne Whitby\, known in the storytelling world by her stage name\, Ziyadliwa. She is passionate about people\, communication\, connection\, and of course\, stories\, and will be applying her facilitation and event-organising wizardry to make sure that events run smoothly and that each session sparkles! \n \n \n \n \n \n [rtec-registration-form event=838] \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Register now

SUMMARY:Here's what REALLY happened (The Animals' Dam)
DESCRIPTION:About this Event \nWe believe that the mass move to online tools is a wonderful opportunity to bring the oral storytelling community closer together. \nOnce a month\, we organise a free virtual story circle where tellers can come along\, tell stories\, listen to stories\, give feedback\, and share story ideas and insights. \nIn March\, let’s talk about what REALLY happened in the story of The Animals’ Dam. \nThis is a South African folktale collected in a number places\, including by The story is a fairy tale collected by Sanni Metelerkamp in “Outa Karel’s Stories” published in 1914. \nIt’s a trickster tale with many different characters and it will put American storytellers in mind of Brer Rabbit and co. It’s classified in the Aarne–Thompson–Uther Index as ATU 55: The Animals Build a Road (Dig Well). \nHere is a link to the story bones. \nIn this month’s “Here’s what REALLY happened”\, I challenge you to tell the story in a whole new way. Instead of simply retelling the story from the 3rd person (external perspective)\, pick a character or a “thing” in the story\, and let them tell the story! For example: \n\nOom Leeuw (Uncle Lion)\nTricky Jackal\nBaboon\nThe other animals\nTortoise\nInanimate objects – the sun\, the rocks\, you name\nWhat else? YOU decide!\n\nGrab a cup of coffee\, tea or simply a glass of water\, and join our monthly Zoom call (we’re trying 30 minutes later this month then will see about changing the time in the future): \n7am CET (Europe) / 6am – UK / 1am – New York / 8am – Israel / 5pm – Sydney\, AU / 11:30am – Delhi AND in the US (the day before) 10pm – California / 10pm – Vancouver \nAbout the organiser: \nOur “What REALLY happened” events are organised and facilitated by Suzanne Whitby\, known in the storytelling world by her stage name\, Ziyadliwa. She is passionate about people\, communication\, connection\, and of course\, stories\, and will be applying her facilitation and event-organising wizardry to make sure that events run smoothly and that each session sparkles! \n \n \n \n \n \n [rtec-attendee-list event=817]\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Register now
